About Flotation Unit Systems

Flotation is a precise separation process where mineral surface chemistry meets air bubbles. Mechanimix flotation units are designed as an integrated package of tank, gas dispersion impeller (GDM/GDS), air injection line, froth collection assembly and control panel. Every component is optimized through CFD analysis for in-cell flow, bubble distribution and solids suspension homogeneity.

CFD-Driven Design

In-cell flow, bubble distribution and solids suspension time are modeled with CFD to maximize recovery.

Cr₂₇ Wear-Resistant Impeller

High-chromium white iron (Cr₂₇) impellers and stators deliver long service life in abrasive ore duties.

GDM / GDS Impeller Options

Mechanical air induction (GDM) or pressurized air stator-rotor (GDS) configuration is selected based on process requirements.

Integrated Froth Management

Froth launders, variable-speed scrapers and concentrate discharge lines are sized to the cell's flow rate.

Modular Cell Banks

Rougher, scavenger, cleaner and recleaner lines can be extended in series; full integration including recirculation pumps.

Process Control Automation

pH, level, froth depth and air flow are monitored online; reagent dosing is optimized via PLC + SCADA.

Why is air dispersion critical in a flotation cell?+
The probability of mineral-bubble collisions depends directly on bubble size and gas holdup. Fine and uniform bubble distribution enlarges the available surface area and accelerates flotation kinetics; oversized or unstable bubbles disrupt froth stability and reduce recovery.
How do you choose between GDM and GDS impellers?+
GDM (mechanical air induction) suits low-to-moderate flow, quiet and low-energy operation and requires no blower. GDS (pressurized air with fixed stator) is preferred where high air flow, large cell volumes and stable bubble size are critical.
Does CFD analysis actually improve recovery?+
Yes. CFD identifies dead zones, short-circuit flows and uneven gas-holdup regions before construction. Optimizing baffles, rotor position and feed inlet typically yields a 2–5% recovery improvement and reduces reagent consumption.
When is Cr₂₇ wear-resistant material recommended?+
Cr₂₇ high-chromium white iron is recommended where the Bond Work Index exceeds 12, solids content is above 40%, or feeds are rich in abrasive silicates. It delivers 6–10 times longer service life than standard steel impellers.
How does automated froth collection work?+
Froth depth is measured continuously with ultrasonic or capacitive level sensors; the PLC adjusts scraper speed automatically. Reagent dosing is also updated through SCADA based on concentrate grade and flow to maintain process balance.
