What's the difference between top entry, side entry and bottom entry mixers?+
The difference is where the shaft enters the tank. Top entry mixers mount on the tank roof and suit large, high-torque, multi-stage duties. Side entry mixers mount through the tank wall near the bottom and are used mainly in large storage tanks where top access isn't practical. Bottom entry mixers enter through the tank floor with a magnetic-coupled seal, and are preferred for aseptic, GMP and sterile processes.
How do I choose the right mixer type for my tank?+
Tank geometry, process (blending, suspension, reaction, hygienic processing) and access constraints decide the configuration. Large storage tanks with limited roof access typically use side entry; tanks requiring high torque, multiple impellers or pressure ratings use top entry; sterile or CIP/SIP tanks use bottom entry. Mechanimix engineers confirm the selection with process data and, where needed, CFD analysis.
What tank sizes and motor powers do Mechanimix mixers cover?+
Across the three configurations, Mechanimix covers roughly 0.25-200 kW motor power and tank volumes from under 1 m³ up to 100,000 m³ (VMG series for large storage tanks).
Can an industrial mixer be retrofitted to an existing tank?+
In most cases, yes. Side entry and top entry mixers can often be retrofitted to an existing nozzle or a new cut-in with minimal tank modification; our engineering team reviews the existing tank drawing to confirm mounting and shaft length before quoting.
